Condition Report:
Very Good - A couple of the tiny metal studs are missing from the detailing on the bangle. This is very common in pieces of this age and type and is only visible upon close inspection. It does not detract from the appeal of the bangle.
The Details...
This bangle is constructed from chunky black celluloid. It features a geometric, carved diamond shaped design and is set with round, ruby red rhinestones and tiny metal studs. It is also detailed with hand-painted gilded lines. The internal diameter of the bangle is 6.5cm, which gives it an internal circumference of 20.4cm.
A Short History...
Celluloid was a highly popular material in jewellery manufacture during the 1920s and 1930s. Newly pioneered injection molding processes, meant that cellulose could be used to produce many identical pieces at the same time. This resulted in the cost per item of celluloid pieces being very low and the material could therefore cater for post-Depression and wartime demands for affordable jewellery.
