An Art Deco diamond, sapphire, and platinum bangle, comprising fifty-four round cut diamonds, and forty-four calibre cut blue sapphires, set in platinum.
This astonishing Art Deco bangle is like nothing I have ever seen. Set with diamonds and sapphires in platinum, it has been created in a stylish zig-zag design, and I believe would have been intended to be worn further up the arm (forearm or upper arm), as was fashionable in the Art Deco era. Each ‘point’ of the bangle is set with alternating round cut diamonds (a mixture of old European cut and transitional cut diamonds), or calibre cut sapphires, which extends around 1/3 of the bangle. The middle sections are set with an overlapping design of sapphires and diamonds, reflecting the overall design of the bangle. The diamonds are bright, white, sparkly, have good colour and clarity, and are well-matched with one another. The sapphires have a strong blue hue and are well-matched with one another. The settings of the sapphires and diamonds are finished with a classic millegrain edge, and the piece has a luxurious weight. This bangle is like nothing I have ever seen before, and is the epitome of Art Deco design, a real rarity, and truly special. The bangle is in good condition and is a piece of true quality, with one sapphire section having possibly seen a repair (slightly misshapen). Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
