About the Item
18kt yellow gold granulation is pronounced with the oxidized silver background on this Castellani® bangle bracelet. The designs are gold florets, braided gold wire and gold beads. The gold granulation is a goldsmith art form that was noticed by Castellani in the mid circa 1800’s, when he was able to visit the Ancient Roman ruins. He studied this fine technique and incorporated it into creating jewellery.
The construction of this bangle is a single hinge with a tongue and clasp. The safety chain is attached to both sides. The wrist length is 7” and is ½” Width (17.78cm wrist length 12.7mm width.
The Castellani and Double C logo plates are affixed to the back the inside of the brooch
Castellani’s Jewellery from the 19th Century is in museums:
British Museum; Victoria
Albert Museum; Metropolitan Museum of Art; The Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Museum to name a few); exhibitions as well as in private collections.
Fortunato Pio Castellani can be called the "Father of Archeological Revival Jewellery". In the mid 1800's in Rome, Castellani had the entree to visit the Ancient Etruscan ruins. He was able to study these Ancient designs as well as other Ancient Mediterranean civilizations’ jewellery and started to create and re-design under his brand.
