China 1890-1910 Antique Victorian Pair of Bracelets in Red Lacquer Cinnabar Wood

Pair of Cinnabar lacquer bangle bracelets. Very nice antique Chinese export bangle bracelet, made in the late 19th century during the Victorian era (1838-1901), circa 1900. It is finely made in wood with red-bluish cinnabar lacquer and carved with beautiful geometric motifs. Have a total weight of 17.95 Grams and the inside diameter is 7.85 Inches (20 Cm). The width measure is 10 mm (0.39 Inch). Cinnabar in its original form, cinnabar is crystallized red mercuric sulphide (HgS), the main ore bearing mercury. Cinnabar has been used for thousands of years as a coloring agent because of its intense red-orange color. Carved lacquer, which is predominantly red, is often known as "cinnabar" lacquer, a reference to the use of this powdered mercury sulphide as the primary colorant.Lacquer is the resin (or sap) of a family of trees (rhus verniciflua) found throughout southern China.
