Exceptional “CROWN” Victorian sterling silver bangle. One of the most coveted and rarest forms of Victorian silver English bangles. During the mid to late 1800’s, English jewelry maker’s created silver bangles, lockets, chains, and earrings with various floral and animal themes. Each piece was unique, and very few “crown” shaped bangles were originally produced. Thus, very few still exist. This is only the third example we have seen in twenty-five years. Exhibiting a monogram and date on the back, this is the only one we have seen with a monogram and date. March 17, 1885 is inscribed in the monogram. We believe the initials are interlocking “KE.” Highly detailed flowers and leaves adorn the front. Flowers are applied to the base bangle. Wonderful cannonball decoration outlines the top portion. All cannonballs, flowers, and bangle are in excellent condition. Bangle shape was meant to represent a tiara. Obviously, this bangle was a very special piece not only due to the exquisite shape but also because of the date and monogram. Overall width to tip of tiara is 1.5” while back width is 1”. Inner circumference at the smallest point is 6.5”. The overall shape of the bangle is oval to allow it for the arm nicely. Vertical shape of the bangle is unique as it is conical meaning it is slightly wider at the top. This allows the crown to hug the arm as it is tapered in shape much like the arm. It can also be worn with the tip of the tiara pointing towards the fingers due to the conical shape. Being more generous at the top, it allows freer movement of the wrist. Fully hallmarked inside. Excellent condition. Hinge is in proper order. Clasp is nice and tight.
