About the Item
A magnificent example of 19th century Austro Hungarian jewelry. The central feature is a large rose de France faceted amethyst surrounded by precious seed pearls. More richly colored amethyst completes the centerpiece along with a pair of half pearls. The balance of the bracelet is finished with six substantial deep purple round faceted amethyst stones repeating the center motif.
The gold work is of superior and intricate quality.
Unusually, this piece is made of 9kt gold. Most typically jewelry of this type is made of silver gilt. Only extremely rarely was Austro Hungarian jewelry made of higher karat gold due to economic conditions in the empire. Despite that, the craftsmanship is very high quality and made for the haute bourgeoisie and aristocracy. It’s fairly rare to find this type of finely detailed jewelry.
The style is typical of Austro Hungarian jewelry of the period, 1870’s-1880’s and is very distinctive of it’s time and place in that very opulent period.
Length: 8”. Difficult to measure as it has an attached guard chain which is presently not removable but could be removed if desired.
