About the Item

This unusual disc charm by Italian goldsmith UnoAErre features raised, well-defined figures on both sides. One side shows a brawny water-bearer pouring an absurdly large stream of liquid from a suspiciously small vessel. Presumably, this is meant to symbolize Aquarius. The other side shows a young woman's head in profile, her eyes possibly covered with a mask, with a wheel in the background. What does this symbolize? Well, we weren't really sure (our best guess, which just raised more questions, was Saint Catherine of Alexandria), but we posted the charm on Instagram and received a reply from one "Vera from an Era" informing us that the lady is, in fact, the goddess of good fortune (Dea della Fortuna or Dea Bendata), shown with her customary wheel (the wheel of fortune) and blindfold (because luck, like love and justice, is blind). Nicely crafted with the figures in satin-finished yellow gold over the rose gold disc. The disc has a circular basket weave pattern and polished edges. Includes a soldered and oval-shaped jump ring, big enough to thread over most chain hardware. Also included is a new 18" leather cord chain so you can start wearing your charm immediately. Measurements: Diameter of disc: 1" Total drop (including top loop and jump ring): 1.5" Thickness of disc (not including figures): 0.65mm Thickness of disc (including figures): up to about 4.8mm Thickness of leather cord: 2mm Length of leather cord: 18" Marks: The Aquarius side is stamped with UnoAErre's maker's mark and Italian registration number (1 AR) along with "750" for 18 karat gold Age: The styles of the registration mark and the UnoAErre logo indicate production sometime between 1944 and 1968.
