About the Item
Hand made cuff bracelet of patinated hammered woven brass and copper wire possibly created by Alex Mate and Lee Brooks of California. Bracelet does resemble metal portions in their works as seen in my last picture taken from their website in the listing. It measures 5.5" wide by 8.5" in diameter and does have some give. For a medium to large wrist and arm. In very good vintage 1970s condition. Unsigned.
Alex Mate and Lee Brooks met in San Francisco and made jewelry that are considered wearable art. They worked together until Mate's death in 1992. Their eccentric and chunky jewelry was often sported by Sonny and Cher, whose TV show launched in 1971 and made them a household name.
Alex and Lee considered their pieces devotional talismans to adorn the temple of the body, and their jewelry was often displayed in the San Francisco store Obiko, owned by Sandra Sakata.
