About the Item
Extraordinary "Envol" cuff in gilded sterling by Argentinian sculptor and jeweler Alicia Penalba.
Alicia Penalba was born in Argentina in the early part of the 20th Century and moved to France in in 1948 to study at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris. Here she developed the abstracted style of sculpture she best became known for. She was very inspired by her native Latin American landscapes. The angular protrusions of her monumental pieces reflected the rocky outcroppings of her native Chilean landscape. Her works are represented in many major museum collections and also in the form of public works throughout the world.
A miniature work of art for the wrist, this bracelet encapsulates her aesthetic brilliantly in wearable form. The protrusions reflect almost a prehistoric feeling of dorsal protrusions.
Sold though the French Gallery Artcuriel in the 1970's which represented her and other important Artists-Jewelers such as the Lalannes and Niki de St. Phalle etc. with a limited edition of 13/30. Excellent condition.
