The brand is created to redefine modern jewelry and to articulate through the concept that fashion is public and jewelry is personal. Each líeu piece is an everyday statement that is fun and androgynous which shapes líeu into the brand that it is today: feminine designs paired with a masculine twist, evoking the bold and feminine spirit of the modern day wearer. Kat was born in Beijing and moved to Washington DC at a young age. Growing up as a dancer, she has always expressed her creativity through art and performing. Following her passion for design, she left home to study Jewelry Design at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise (FIDM) in Los Angeles. As the designer and creator behind líeu, Kat is responsible for creating and designing each piece through CAD and the sustainability in the process of every development. The aesthetic behind líeu is a new take on classics - deriving from the design principles that fashion is what you portray to the outside world, but jewelry reflects something intimate, private, and enduring. The goal of her jewelry designs are to achieve elegance while going outside the normal shapes of fine jewelry. A minimalistic statement that is a true embodiment of her own life experiences, tastes and thoughts about the modern dresser. The rapid change in sexual dynamics within the society allows both sexes play - changing the existing rules of the game, because it is the first time that a man embraces the dressing habits of women whereas the reverse always happened. When it comes to líeu, gender is irrelevant because the identity of gender cannot be understood in a simple and clear manner. The materials which are worn and carried on the body highlight only the characteristics of the individual. Kats work is made exclusively with ethically and responsibly sourced metals and gemstones. Each piece of jewelry is tested and worn to ensure the quality and the wearability on the body for everyday comfort. Kat loves combining metals. You can often find her signature styles guided by a mix of 18k yellow or rose gold vermeil and rhodium plated sterling silver. As a promise to the quality of craftsmanship, Kat works closely with her workshop in Los Angeles step by step. The genuine and longstanding relationship between the artisans and the designer herself translates to the final product.
