Why is Birmingham famous for jewellery?
In the 19th century, Birmingham was the birthplace of the industrial revolution with factories, workshops and crafts springing up all over, leading the city to become known as 'the workshop of the world'. In it's heyday in 1913, over 30,000 people were employed in Birmingham's jewelry trade.
This hand engraved cuff is a good example of the craftsmanship of that period. It has beautiful beadings on the outside edge and engraved on the top.
The clasp is secure and the safety chain is additional security. There are hallmarks on the inside of the cuff to confirm it's origin.
