About the Item
During the 1860's through the 1880's silver bracelets were everywhere in Europe. I call the period the silver rush in England where most of these cuffs were made in a plethora of patters with beautiful hand engraving. This cuff has scalloping engraved at the edges and is filled with ivy entwining around the front. Oak leaves are symbolic for "clinging together as one" a delicious lovers wish. The wide width is striking.
England was a coal burning nation. That being silver was unpopular as it would quickly tarnish. The Queen was the style setter during her reign. When she gave a silver necklace to Jenny Lind, the famous British Nightengale, that put silver on the map and the rush began. Today, we give a swipe of a jewelers cloth to our silver and it remains bright and untarnished. Will fit a wrist size 5 1/2 to 6 1/2
