About the Item
This rare aluminium bracelet was created around 1850/1860 in France. When discovered aluminium was thought to be a precious metal and during a short period in the history of jewellery was used to create outstanding pieces of jewellery. This unusual bracelet is made up from a large centre piece and four smaller oval segments to either side. The smaller segments are set with 5 flat cut garnets each assembled to make up a flower. All segments are finely engraved with swirls and decorated with eight gilt metal flowers in relief around the edges. The centre piece is designed as an outer frame with openwork swirls that hold a smaller oval in high relief set with 10 garnets. All elements are connected by eternity symbols with a garnet each in the centre.
