About the Item
A brilliant cut diamond, and 18 karat polished and textured, white and yellow gold, organic design bracelet by the late Spanish jeweler Augustin Julia-Plana, c. 1970. The bracelet is stamped Design Julia-Plana S 750. (S for Schlegel)
Julia-Plana’s original and beautifully crafted designs - jewelry and watches - can be found in the collections of major houses like Tiffany and Co., with the firm of Simon Schlegel where he was a partner since 1968, and under his name. Julia-Plana and Schlegel had a sophisticated and high-society clientele. His jewels are a particular favorite of Mahnaz, who can, as she says, "usually recognize a Julia-Plana piece instantly, by the highly original use of often rare hardstones such as maw-sit sit or oxidized iron, in unusual cuts, combined with diamonds, set in gold and shaped organically as though by nature. They are utterly captivating in their beauty and mix of high with ostensibly low-value materials."
Winner of four Diamond International Awards, Julia-Plana died tragically at the height of his career, at the age of 45 in 1979.
