About the Item
This is a stunning 1920s French Art Deco celluloid bracelet bangle. It features a light, hollow tube shape with a leaf-and-flower design around the bracelet.
The hollow bracelet technique is an ancient jewelry-making technique applied at the turn of the 20th Century. The celluloid material arrived as a flat sheet, which was then cut by hand and painted, stained, or sprayed. Then, each celluloid piece was heated around a wooden stick to form a tube. When the hollow tube was cool enough, it was reheated, rounded, and sealed to close it and shape the bracelet. Thus, looking closely at the bracelet, you can see the seam on the inner edge and the seal on the circumference.
This bracelet has an intricate design in rust, orange, yellow, silver-gray, and blue over a black background. It is striking and unique.
Measurements: Inside across is 2.82 in diameter (7.2 cm) - outside across is 3.44 in diameter (8.8 cm) - width is 0.38 in wide (0.9 cm) - inner circumference is 8.66 in long (22.6 cm). It will best fit a Large wrist, from 7 to 8.69 in circumference (18 to 22 cm). Note, you can wear this bracelet on the top of the forearm or the upper arm if your wrist is smaller. Flapper girls wore it like that in the Art Deco era.
