About the Item
A vintage sapphire and ruby 18 karat yellow gold snake triple coiled flexible bracelet, Circa 1890.
This exceptional antique bracelet is realistically modelled as a coiled snake handcrafted in a braided woven mesh of 18 karat yellow gold.
The bracelet is entirely flexible, coiling three times when worn expanding to fit any wrist or arm size.
The top of the snakes head is bezel set with a cabochon sapphire of rich lively blue weighing 1.10ct approximately and finished with bezel set cabochon ruby eyes.
With Assay Marks for France to its tail
This bracelet comes with a fitted box, as pictured.

Whilst the use of the snake motif in jewellery has been around since the Ancient Greek civilisation, it really came into its own during the Victorian era.
It was Queen Victoria herself who bought snake jewellery to the forefront when she was presented with a snake engagement ring set with her birthstone - an emerald by her husband-to-be, Prince Albert.
The Victorians associated the snake motif with eternal love.
Condition - Overall the condition of the bracelet is very good, with some abrasions to the surface of the gold, in keeping with its general age.
