About the Item
A Victorian natural red spinel and diamond crescent brooch, with 19, natural red spinels, graduating from the centre, in grain settings, with a row of old-cut diamonds set between, either side, with a narrow, flat edge on the inside and cut down settings and a gallery on the outside curve, mounted in gold, circa 1890 with a pin and later roller catch and removable safety chain. Accompanied by GCS certificate 41128 stating that the red stones are natural spinel, with the origin given as Myanmar (Burma).
In Victorian symbolism the crescent or new moon represented a new relationship, hopeful it will "wax" into matrimony.
