About the Item
Vintage Antonio Pineda RARE Sterling Silver Mid-Century Modern Brooch. Design references a leaf twisting in the wind. Circa 1930s, this very unique large sterling silver brooch and earrings are signed with Antonio Pineda's signature markings. Made in Mexico.
In 1941 at the age of 22, Antonio Pineda opened his own workshop in his hometown of Taxco after working and studying with other notable artists and silver workshops, including William Spratling. His reputation was launched in 1944 when he participated in an international exposition in San Francisco at the Palace of the Legion of Honor, where his collection of some eighty pieces were bought entirely by Gump’s. This relationship continued for many years with Gump’s supplying the stones and Pineda designing and producing the jewelry.
CONDITION: Has expected surface scratches and wear. Has been lightly polished, but has some tarnish / soiling in deep grooves consistent with age.
