About the Item

Merle Edaakie, Zuni Master Lapidary Artist Large Zuni Inlay Rainbow Dancer Pin 1946 Robert Wallace Collection Collection Number RP 164 Natural turquoise, spiny oyster shell, mother of pearl, and jet set in Sterling Silver. This wonderful Rainbow Dancer design pin was made by Merle Edaakie (also known as Merle Edokakie) in 1946. Merle Edaakie is considered one of the best of the first-generation of Zuni stone-carving-and-inlay artists. His work is highly collectible and sought after. The pin is one of the five Rainbow Dancer pins specifically made for and purchased by Robert Wallace of the renown Zuni trading post family in 1946. Edaakie also worked for C.G. Wallace. Edaakie's Rainbow Dancer pins along with five Knifewing design pieces by John Gordon Leak were prominently featured in the 1975 Sotheby's auction of the C.G. Wallace collection. I am the third owner of this rare and amazing 10-piece collection, which has not appeared on the market since I purchased them in 1988. For the very first time, all the classic pieces in this historic collection are now being made available for purchase on an individual basis.
