An early 20th century French frog brooch, set with old European-cut diamonds and demantoid garnets, with a round cabochon-cut ruby eye, the diamonds estimated to weigh 2 carats in total, all set in silver and yellow gold, bearing French gold eagle's head mark for 18ct gold, indistinct maker’s mark and inventory number 543, circa 1910, measuring approximately 3.5 x 2.5cm, gross weight 8.1 grams.
This antique brooch is in very good condition bearing signs of wear consistent with its age.
This diamond, green garnet and ruby frog brooch is a statement piece of exemplary early twentieth century craftsmanship. It is part of the collection of Bentley
Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. It’s composition and execution are striking, as is the unique colour of the demantoid garnet in which it is set.
