About the Item
A Georgian yellow gold, blue enamel, and pearl brooch, comprising two discs of blue guilloche enamel, set with 46 seed pearls in total, set in 18 karat yellow gold, with 18 karat yellow gold pin and fittings.
This wonderful late Georgian brooch is formed as a pair of interlocked rings. Interlocked rings were often symbolic of a couple joining in marriage, as 2 people form an unbreakable bond and are connected with one another, with the circles also symbolising infinity, and the space within the rings suggesting the opening of a door into something new. The rings are each set with shimmering seed pearls, which are pale, lustrous, and in great condition for their age. The edges of the rings are adorned with vibrant cobalt blue guilloche enamel, which contrasts perfectly with the ivory tone of the seed pearls, and the strong, buttery colour of the yellow gold. The brooch is closed-back, and is complete with yellow gold pin and fittings, a c-shaped catch, and a safety chain. The brooch is in great condition, with some small losses to the enamel, but considering the age of the piece, it has fared remarkably well. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The brooch measures 25mm high, and 35.8mm wide, and is 10.5mm deep (excluding brooch fittings).
