About the Item
This elegant cameo brooch from the 1900s is finely carved in shell and set in a 10 karat yellow gold frame. The cameo depicts Hera, the wife of Zeus, shown in classical profile with a pinned peplos and beautifully detailed curls under her diadem. Warm natural striations in the shell enhance the depth and dimension of the carving.
The piece is mounted in an openwork 10k gold bezel, adding delicacy without overwhelming the artistry of the cameo. It has a hidden bail to allow the piece to be worn as a pendant as well. The brooch measures approximately 2 3/8 inches long by 1 7/8 inches wide and has a substantial weight of 20.48 grams. Stamped 10K.
