About the Item

Striking Mid 19th Century Foiled Amythest Etruscan Brooch circa 1860's. Elaborate Etruscan gold work setting with large pale amythest with deep purple foils within. Colored foils set behind stones were first used in the Georgian period but was carried through the 19th Century where the stone needed "enhancement". Original "locket" back. 1860's USA. 1.75" x 1.5" x .65" high.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Foiling intact, one sees the foil through top facet with slight wear in center. The amythest appears paler from the front, but the rich purple is seen from different side angles.
