About the Item
French designers Marie-Therese and Christian Migeon, known as Migeon
Migeon, created this spectacular, artisan-crafted modernist resin brooch in the 1980s. The pair were active members of the Parisian design gallery "En Attendant Les Barbares" during the period. The oversized curved shape boasts a futuristic design in a yellow marigold frosted color over a silver foil background. The iconic company logo on the underside reads Migeon
Migeon - Paris.
Measurements: 3.75 in wide (9.6 cm) by 2.44 in high (6.2 cm).
Provenance
Design Legacy
Migeon
Migeon was a celebrated French husband-and-wife design team active between 1986 and 1995, known for their imaginative approach to furniture, accessories, and jewelry. Their work was published by the influential Parisian gallery En Attendant Les Barbares, a cornerstone of the postmodern "barbarian style" movement that blurred the boundaries between design and decorative art.
Their creations—marked by bold forms, playful materials, and a futuristic sensibility—have become highly collectible. Among their most iconic pieces, the two-tone resin candle holders sold over 40,000 units in just four years. Today, their work is out of production and increasingly sought after by collectors and curators alike. Select pieces are held in the permanent collection of the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, underscoring their cultural and design significance.
Further Reading
Founded in 1984 by Agnes Kentish and Frederic de Luca, En Attendant Les Barbares helped define the decorative arts landscape of the late 20th century. The gallery championed designers such as Elizabeth Garouste and Mattia Bonetti, and later expanded to include talents like Christian Ghion, Arik Levy, and Matt Sindall. Known for its commitment to craftsmanship and the use of noble materials—such as bronze, hand-beaten iron, and gold leaf—the gallery's exhibitions have shaped the legacy of postmodern design in France and beyond.
