About the Item
Crafted in the Victorian style, this brooch is a vintage treasure. Rich yellow gold cannetille surrounds and adorns rosy pink gold in the center of this pin. Though a faithful reproduction of a Victorian brooch, the modern hallmarks tell us that this particular pin was created after 1953.
Cannetille was very popular in the 1820´s-1830’s, as following the Napoleonic wars precious metals were very scarce. Cannetille was then the perfect medium for jewelry-making as the method utilizes a very small amount of gold to create a very large-scale jewel. Cannetille is still produced today, both as reproductions of antique jewels and especially for traditional regional folk-costumes.
This brooch measures 17.1 x 47.5 mm and weighs 4.9 grams. The brooch pin is functional and closes with a safety c-clasp.
