About the Item

These most lavish, rare pyrite love token (armatory) earrings have hidden messages of love throughout their design. They were so work intensive that I believe they were made for a particular person The Girandole form with three drops at bottom gave access to extensive hidden meaning. The symbol at top is a heart. Below are crossed arrows which are the arrows of love. Think cupid's arrows. At each dangle is a torch of love and flowers. In the middle drop is another love torch. At center of each earring is a bow which prompts the owner to "think of me". These are all original with back to front ear wire in gold. The original wig hoops keep them from falling forward. The pyrite is silver set. Imagine the hands the worked days to cut, polish and mount over 99 pyrite studs in one earring. They are the tiniest studs ever seen. Pyrite was definitely not a substitute for diamonds. Records show it was extremely expensive. It was a glowing spectacle in candlelight. Made in c.1750, they fit in with the excess of grand fashion and jewelry . These astonishing earrings were made in Spain or Portugal. The ear wires can be changed to shepherds hooks if preferred. As they are, they enter the ear from the back of the lobe and close in the front holding steady. As you see, the condition is exceptional with general light wear. Close to 300 years old. Dimensions are 2 1/2 inches long and just under 2 inches wide. Weight of 23.4 grams.

Antique Georgian Berlin Iron Chandelier Earrings
Located in Stamford, CT
Happy Birthday to these fabulous earrings that are 200 years old this year. Berlin Iron jewelry in excellent condition is rare, even in the museums of the world. The earrings are in three sections, the top two being frilly fine spirals of iron with a silver heart at top. The bottom section is a classical portrait , both male and female on a background of shining steel. The figures would have been recognized in 1820. These are made in Gleiwitz, Germany. By now I have written much about Berlin Iron, as I sell necklaces and bracelets as well. It was made because of the Napoleonic War when France and Germany fought hard and long. Both countries ran out of war funds. Germany was first to turn to their aristocrats for money. The wealthy citizens gave their gold jewelry to the German treasury in exchange for iron jewelry. The iron jewels...
