About the Item

Made in Italy c. 1820, not later, this is a pair of 10kt gold and coral earrings made by hand. Why was 10kt gold chosen. The gold work, making cannetille, the tiny spirals, uses thin lines of gold. 10 Kt is strong, stronger than 18kt or 22kt gold. These earrings have kept their condition for 200 years because of the gold used and care given by the original owner. Georgian earrings like this are rare. Earrings were often lost or broken. Notice the variety of gold work. The little spirals are daisies that symbolize think of me. The wirework around the coral allows the gems to come forward. The tops and bottoms separate so that the top part can be worn alone. All this was done in daylight as there was no electricity. Also at this time only nobility or those of the Royal Court could wear jewelry like this. Perfect Condition. 2 inches long. Light in Weight
