About the Item
This couture French Maison Gripoix ornate glass pair of faux-pearl-turquoise-and-diamond gold-gilt clip earrings are both stamped "France" on their convex ear-pads, which is characteristic of one-of-a-kind designs commissioned by Parisian couturier Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel before a brand signature was added to her costume jewelry around 1955. The construction matches faux-pearl trimmed wired beads, prong-set crystal and prong-set cabochon glass jewelry fashioned for Chanel by Gripoix. Artisan goldsmith Robert Goosens designed them in the early 1950s with inspiration from his personal collection of multicolor stones that included lots of veined turquoise. Another 1stDibs seller offers a Chanel turquoise-glass bib necklace for $19,500 from the same period by Gripoix that pairs well with our earrings.
Since the 1930s, Gripoix was Chanel's Parisian workshop of choice for poured-glass jewelry. Given the clip style, these are post-WWII earrings.
