About the Item
These stunning, oversized Françoise Montague Paris resin clip-on earrings were designed in the 1980s. The pieces feature a dangle shape with gilt metal-coated element, an important acrylic resin donut adorned with ethnic carving. The shiny gold color has black carved inscriptions in contrast. There is no visible signature like all the vintage Françoise Montague jewelry pieces.
Dimensions: 2.75 in wide (7 cm) by 4.13 in high (10.5 cm).

Francoise Montague took over the De Saurma jewelry workshop in the late 1940s. Her mother founded the boutique in 1945, as mentioned in Florence Muller's book Costume Jewelry for Haute Couture. The established business included a global clientele and a boutique in Paris. After Montague took over, her most important client was Nina Ricci for over ten years.
Montague's early jewelry is recognizable for its abundant use of enamel and iridescent glass beads. However, these costume jewelry pieces and the early resin pieces are often unmarked and can be difficult to identify correctly. Montague continued to work in the business through the 1950s and 1960s, earning accolades, including the Grand Prix des Créations de Bijouterie Fantaisie in 1961, and maintaining a loyal clientele.
Marion Stern acquired the house that had previously worked for haute couture in 1978, retaining the name Françoise Montague.
The company considerably reduced its staff during the 1990s. It rebounded in the 2000s by adding many new designs to its couture jewelry portfolio and building on established standards by creating pieces featuring multiple foxtail chains in a fringed fashion.
Since 1998, the first Françoise Montague store, located on Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris, has been a delight for ladies. At the end of a courtyard, like a best-kept secret, women looking for elegant, unique, and exclusive jewelry find brooches, necklaces, and earrings crafted from metal, resin, paste, hard stones, and paste glass beads, sometimes mixed with old pieces.
