About the Item
A pair of simple, elegant Los Castillo earrings. The metal is sterling silver and the gemstone appears to be Aztec jade but I am unable to confirm that. These earrings measure .5" by .5" and weigh .3 oz. (.15 oz. each). They are in good condition with normal wear and tear from age and use. Screw mechanisms are both in good working condition.
Antonio Castillo and his three brothers opened their silver shop "Los Castillo" in 1939 in Taxco, Mexico. He had been an apprentice to William Spratling. Many skilled silversmiths worked in his shop and it is known for its quality sterling silver as well as mixed metal wares. Antonio Castillo died in 2000.
