Modernist earrings designed by Gilbert Albert (1930-2919) for Gubelin. Fabulous pair of earrings, from the modernism period circa 1960. This sculptural pieces was made in Zurich Switzerland by the genius goldsmith Gilbert Albert for the house of Gubelin. They was crafted with organic maritime patterns in solid yellow gold of 18 karats with textured patterns. The design and the patterns were inspired by the reefs and the coral formations of the bottom of the sea. Fitted with posts (Removable) and French omega backs for fastening clips. Abalone: Mount with a pair of free forms elements, carved from abalone shells from the seas close to the Philippines Islands. Pearls: Mount with a pair of cultured round white pearls of 5 mm. Weight: 17.45 grams (11.18 Dwt). Measurements: 26 mm by 21 mm (1.02 x 0.83 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped, with the maker's mark, the swiss gold assay marks and signed, "GUBELIN .750". Gilbert Albert, born in Geneva, Switzerland in 1930, is a jewelry designer and one of the most influential jeweler artist of the 20th and 21th century with more than 10 world award winning prizes. He made important sculptural jewelry works for the Patek Philippe company and he worked there as part of the designer team. He was head of the workshop from the 1955 to 1962, during which time he designed his signature asymmetrical watches for the company. Mr. Albert took his inspiration from his passion for modern art, notably works by Brancusi and Mondrian.
