William Spratling Sterling Amethyst Shell Earrings, 1950s, Ex-Goddard Estate
By William Spratling
Located in North Attleboro, MA
A rare and sculptural pair of sterling silver and amethyst earrings by William Spratling, Taxco, Mexico, circa the 1950s. Each earring is formed as a stylized spiral conch shell accented with rich amethyst cabochons, a motif that showcases Spratling’s ability to merge organic inspiration with modernist design. These earrings come directly from the estate of Phyllis M. Goddard, the noted Spratling scholar. This exact pair is illustrated in her reference Spratling Silver: A Field Guide (see p. 96, fig. 2-301), giving them exceptional provenance and historical importance within Spratling’s body of work. Stamped with the appropriate maker’s marks. Excellent vintage condition with natural patina and original screw-back fittings. A museum-worthy example for collectors of mid-century Mexican silver, documented studio jewelry, or Spratling’s finest work. These are truly beautiful. Each earring is a whimsical spiraled sea...

Located in North Attleboro, MA
These vintage Matl earrings capture the richly ornamented silverwork and gemstone combinations characteristic of the later evolution of the Matilde Poulat workshop.
