Two beautiful baroque pearls are the focal point of these drop earrings, with the pearls set with animals that appear to crawl up their irregular surface. The animals shown here are male and female lions, but the creatures can be customised to order. The pearls clip onto stud earrings that are fashioned with myriad animals in their design, from snakes to elephants. Indeed, the studs can be worn alone for day, with the hanging pearls attached for a more decadent evening look. Designed in 18k rose gold and sterling silver, the earrings are embellished with brown diamonds. Fierce, mythical, and friendly creatures become beautiful pieces of jewellery in Bibi’s hands. Alligators, bats, unicorns, frogs, and iguanas are fashioned in mammoth tusk, their forms crafted into rings, earrings, and necklaces. Designed in 18k yellow and rose gold, and embellished with silver and brown diamonds and tsavorites, these pieces are both precious and playful. Indeed, the jewellery’s form is often elegantly fused into its function. The Animal Alligator Earrings “snap” their 18k gold mouths to close on the ear, while the Pink Elephant Necklace’s trunk grasps onto the pendant’s chain. Finely-crafted to capture animals’ instinctive movements, these jewellery pieces are designs to treasure. The creator of this piece, Bibi van der Velden, believes that jewellery should imbue the wearer with energy, with her pieces offering a playful, personal, and highly artistic take on fine jewellery. This personal touch comes from a jewellery-making process that’s grounded in traditional craftsmanship. Working with sustainable and unexpected materials, among them 60,000-year-old mammoth tusk, ostrich eggs, and scarab wings, Bibi hand-sketches and hand-carves each piece in wax. Bibi describes her jewellery pieces as “miniature sculptures.”
