About the Item
A pair of opal, rock crystal, and yellow gold earrings, each comprising two opal cabochons, a panel of faceted rock crystal, in 9 karat yellow gold.
These dainty, unusual earrings are formed as a cabochon opal ‘egg’ shape, split into 2 and segmented with a faceted piece of rock crystal. The delicate opals are beautifully pastel hued, and the faceted rock crystal catches the light. These opal and rock crystal drops are suspended at the centre of a yellow gold oval, which in turn is suspended from an elegant marquise shape, in rosier toned gold. This design, where the cabochon stone is 'split' in 2, with a central piece of faceted rock crystal is a design element typical of the Art Deco period but is more often seen in onyx pieces. It is unusual to see pastel-hued opals in jewellery of this period. The earrings are articulated to move with you, and the light, elegant design makes them so easy to wear. The earrings are complete with beaded gold ear hooks (likely later replacements). The earrings are in great condition. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
