About the Item
A pair of Art Deco 9ct gold screw-back earrings featuring natural coral drops and old-cut diamonds.
The design follows a refined naturalistic line: a round coral bead leads into a slim gold section set with small old-cut diamonds in leaf-shaped mounts, finishing in elongated coral teardrops. Note the clever detail of the design featuring one earring with the round diamond first and the other earring featuring the diamond leaves first - I love that detail! They measure approximately 42 mm in drop and weigh 3.1 g gross. The original fittings and period detailing make them an authentic, well-kept example of early 20th-century craftsmanship.
Note slight wear on top of one of the teardrop corals as pictured, but otherwise in really good condition considering their age.
They’re easy to wear and surprisingly adaptable. The warm peach-orange coral has enough presence to stand alone, but it pairs cleanly with other minimal gold pieces—slim chains, simple bangles, signet rings. The old-cut diamonds add a quiet sparkle, so they sit comfortably next to antique diamond rings or a small vintage pendant without competing. The length gives movement without overwhelming the face, which makes them suitable for both day and evening.
With neutrals like ivory, black, navy or camel, the coral becomes the focal point; with prints or richer colours, it softens and works as an accent. For a more Deco-leaning look, they combine naturally with geometric brooches and bracelets, especially anything with milgrain detail. For everyday wear, they add colour and elegance to clean lines and natural fabrics without over-styling.
The warmth of the coral flatters most skin tones, so they bring a lift even when the rest of the jewellery is kept simple—exactly why vintage coral drops have stayed timeless.
