About the Item
A pair of gorgeous Art Deco jade earrings, made of platinum and featuring a striking combo of jade, pearls, Old European and single cut diamonds.
Atop the earring sits a button-shaped pearl that anchors overall design. Below, a single Old European cut diamond connects the pearl to a linear drop, set with single cut diamonds and finished with engraved and milgrain detailing. The earrings are completed with oval vivid green jade cabochons, suspended from the diamond-set drop.
The platinum setting reflects the geometric style typical of 1920s jewelry, while the contrasting textures of pearl, jade, and diamond give the earrings a clean, structured look. The screw-back closures are original to the period but could be re-worked upon request.
The earrings are made of platinum, jade, pearl and diamonds. The jade is fashioned into an oval cabochon measuring approximately 16.4 x 12.2 x 5.5 mm and weighing approximately 9.80 carats each. One larger diamond is Old European cut weighing approximately 0.50 carat each (I-J color, VS2 clarity). The other diamonds are single cut. The pearl is a round button shaped, white color, 8.4 mm in diameter.
The earrings measure 2" x ½” (4.8 x 1.2 cm) and weigh 11.3 grams.

Art Deco, an influential design style, emerged in the early 20th century, reaching its peak during the Jazz Age, in the 1920-1930s. Since then, Art Deco jewelry has remained highly appreciated for its strong geometric shapes, undeniable elegance, and chic.
The jewelry from this period reflects cultural changes of the time, mirroring the exuberance of the Roaring Twenties. For instance, square, triangular, and trapezoidal cuts were favored, reflecting a departure from the organic motifs of previous design eras. Art Deco jewelers embraced new materials and techniques Platinum, being the most popular metal during the Art Deco era, also contributed to the period jewelry popularity. At that time the Merensky-Reef, the world’s largest platinum deposit, was discovered in South Africa. The metal’s characteristics allowed it to create delicate yet durable designs.
The emphasis on symmetry and precision in Art Deco design reflected the influence of the machine age. Jewelry pieces were often precisely crafted, featuring symmetrical arrangements. Art Deco jewelry design often incorporated functional elements. Pieces frequently doubled as practical accessories, such as watches integrated into bracelets or brooches.
The Art Deco movement drew inspiration from various cultures, including ancient Egyptian, Asian, and African motifs. These influences are apparent in the use of symbols and patterns that add an eclectic flair to the jewelry.
