About the Item
Eytan Brandes' new shimmery slice earrings feature natural brown sapphires and bright white diamonds in rich, unmistakable 18 karat gold.
The tops are actually left over links from an extremely expensive diamond bracelet Eytan shortened for a customer several years ago. The workmanship is daffy-good. Usually, to set diamonds over white metal, especially for such small diamonds, rhodium plating over the yellow gold would be used, but here the designer went the extra mile and inserted little white gold plates. We love this kind of attention to detail! The eight pavé-set diamonds are small (0.01 carats each) but high quality, clean, natural and earth-mined brilliant cuts.
The sapphires are gorgeous. They are very rough quality -- flaws a'plenty -- but they're nicely cut and polished and have the distinctive silky, soulful shimmer that you only find with rough corundum (i.e., rubies and sapphires). They're also only 3.5mm thick, which means they're deceptively lightweight, despite their size and solidity.
The total length comes to 46mm (just over 1-3/4"). The bottom width is 16.4mm (5/8"). Note that our earring mannequin is life-sized, if on the petite size.
With the 18 karat butterfly backs, the total weight of these earrings is 10.9 grams. The sapphire weight is just under 30 carats and the diamond weight is 0.08 carats.
