About the Item
These gorgeous new, one-of-a-kind earrings by Eytan Brandes feature bicolor tourmaline slices framed in textured gold randomly smattered with with tiny diamonds.
The vivid pink and green Brazilian tourmalines have plenty of interesting natural inclusions. One is about 25% larger than the other.
The stones are framed in 14 karat gold with prongs holding them in place, front and back. Eytan fashioned the frames by hand specifically for these unusual shapes, then sculpted the openwork, vaguely topographical lattice above each stone. To compensate for the difference in sizes, he made a longer frame for the smaller stone so that both earrings are about 2" long.
The 44 burnished (aka flush-set) diamonds are all from Eytan's Big Box o' Recycled Diamonds -- stones that he's pulled from thousands of pieces of jewelry (some in the process of making repairs or alterations but most in the process of getting melted) that have come in to the store in his long career as a goldsmith. They are all natural (i.e., earth-mined) and some of them are obviously pretty old based on their cuts. They range in quality, but most are in the SI clarity and H-J color ranges. Just under half the stones are either single cuts or Swiss cuts and the rest are brilliant cuts. The total diamond weight is just under 0.26 carats.
