Southern India 19th century dangle earrings Fabulous, statements oversized dangle earrings, made during the middle of the 19th century in the southern kingdoms of India. These antique earrings have been carefully crafted in three-dimensions in rich yellow gold of 22 karats with textured finish. The earrings are extensively decorated, with geometric patterns, graduated dots, chiseled and sculpted designs and intricate filigree details. They are fitted with discrete posts for pierced ears, security hinges and butterfly pusher-backs. Certainly! this South Indian antique gold earrings are gorgeous with an exceptional craftsmanship and will be a showstopper. They are absolutely museum quality and are the best pair of earrings of this type we have ever seen. Southern India Dynasties The history of southern India covers a span of over four thousand years during which the region saw the rise and fall of a number of dynasties and empires. The period of known history of southern India begins with the Iron Age (c. 1200 BCE to 200 BCE), Sangam period (c. 600 BCE to 300 CE) and Medieval southern India until the 15th century CE. Dynasties of Chera, Chola, Pandyan, Travancore, Cochin, Zamorin, Kolathunadu, Chalukya, Pallava, Satavahana, Rashtrakuta, Western Ganga, Kakatiya, Hoysala, Reddy dynasty, Seunas, Vijayanagara Empire and the Bahmani Sultanate were at their peak during various periods of history. The Vijayanagara Empire rose in response to the Islamic intervention and covered most of southern India. It acted as a bulwark against Deccan Sultanate and Mughal expansion into the south. When the European powers arrived during the 16th and 18th century CE, the southern kingdoms, most notably Tipu Sultan's Kingdom of Mysore, resisted the new threats, and many parts eventually succumbed to British conquest. The British created the Madras Presidency which acted as an administrative center for the rest of southern India, with them being princely states. After Indian independence, southern India was linguistically divided into the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Kerala. The Kingdom of Mysore was a realm in southern India, traditionally believed to have been founded in 1399 in the vicinity of the modern city of Mysore. From 1799 until 1950, it was a princely state, until 1947 in a subsidiary alliance with British India. It then became Mysore State (later enlarged and renamed to Karnataka) with its ruler remaining as Raja Pramukh until 1956, when he became the first Governor of the reformed state. Note: We have not polished this pair to preserve the antique rich patina. Collateral: They are accompanied by a presentation jewelry box. Condition: The overall condition of these earrings is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the gold. All parts are secured in the settings.
