These perfectly balanced Sapphire and Diamond Pave Halo Drop Earrings made by Spectra Fine Jewelry in the 21st century, circa 2010s, are crafted in platinum and feature two magnificent cushion-cut sapphires weighing an estimated 32.92 carats total. The pair of near-perfect-square gemstones are accompanied by report nos. GRS2013-057132 and GRS2013-057133 dated 13 May 2013 from Gemresearch Swisslab (GRS) stating they are 16.36- and 16.56-carat natural blue sapphires of Sri Lanka (Ceylon) origin with indication of thermal treatment.
Two cushion-cut diamonds, centered just above in perfect compositional balance, weigh an estimated 2.01 carats each and are accompanied by report no. 2155339727 dated April 2, 2013, and no. 2151212802 dated January 18, 2013, from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) stating that they are of F color and VS1 and VS2 clarity, respectively. According to the GIA, “a chemically pure and structurally perfect diamond has no hue, like a drop of pure water, and consequently, a higher value.” These F color diamonds fall into the colorless range and are certified to have excellent polish and symmetry, and no fluorescence. All four resplendent gems are further accented with cushion-shaped halos of pavé diamonds that continue the delicate line up the earring wire. There's about 160 pave diamonds in both earrings weighing approximately 1.6 carats total (0.01ct each diamond). The earrings are designed for pierced ears.
Vivid blue sapphires have been mined in Sri Lanka—once known as Ceylon—for thousands of years. Mines were already well-established when Marco Polo landed there in 1292. The word Ceylon has become associated with these beautiful gems even though the name of the country has changed. Regarded as the “jewel box” of the Indian ocean, a staggeringly high 25% of Sri Lanka’s land mass contains gemstones. Ceylon sapphire have nuanced variation in color, density, composition, translucence, and purity. Sapphire is said to be the wisdom stone, stimulating concentration, enhancing creativity, and promoting purity and depth of thought. It is believed to focus and calm the mind.
The cushion cut, chosen for all four featured stones, is often referred to as a pillow cut due to its square or rectangular shape with rounded edges. This cut comprises 58 facets, like brilliant stones and has been popular since the 18th century. The softened square shape offers a classic look with a velvety and romantic old-world charm. These earrings are truly gracefully refined and dignified with few elements, all composed beautifully and representing the utmost quality.
Total weight of heat-treated Ceylon sapphires is 32.92 carats, accompanied with a GRS Certificate. Two white cushion diamonds approx. 2.01 carat each, F color, VS1 and VS2 clarity, accompanied with GIA Certificates.
