About the Item
Adorable and scarce Whitby Jet earrings carved into a cross c. 1860-70 in Whitby England. The cardinal points are capped beautifully with gold engraved scalloped edges. Whitby The earrings are extremely light in weight. Jet is an esoteric material. It is fossilized pieces of driftwood fossilized 183 million years ago. It comes primarily from North Yorkshire England. Victorians valued jet highly and it was always expensive due to the hand work involved and the age of the material. These are wonderful for observant clients as well as those who love the cross form. Excellent condition.
These are 3/4 of an inch long and 9/16 of an inch wide.
