A pair of antique diamond, platinum, and white gold earrings, each comprising twenty-six old cut diamonds, in platinum, with white gold closures.
My favourite thing about these Edwardian Platinum Diamond Drop Earrings is the sparkling diamonds. What’s yours? Perhaps the cool platinum? Or the elegant design?
These show-stopping Edwardian (or Belle Epoque) earrings are in the ‘palmette’ design. A ‘palmette’ is a decorative motif, which resembles the fan-shaped leaves of the palm tree. An ancient Egyptian motif, symbolising life, fertility, immortality, abundance and rebirth, and a popular classical motif in the late 1800s and early 1900s, especially as Egyptian revival jewellery surged into popularity in the 1910s/1920s. Each earring begins with an old European cut diamond, held within a millegrain edged, platinum, bezel setting. From here, a smaller, similarly set old cut diamond is suspended, from which, drops a slender, kite shaped diamond panel, adorned with sparkling old cut diamonds. This leads us to an openwork palmette motif, set with an abundance of old cut diamonds, sparkling from within their millegrain edged, platinum settings. At the centre, a large old European cut diamond rests, within its bezel setting. Supremely elegant earrings, the openwork design of which uses negative space to create even more impact. The earrings are fully articulated, and are complete with post fittings and white gold safety backs, which latch to the earrings by way of a push mechanism. The diamonds are bright, white, sparkly, and well-matched with one another. The earrings are in excellent condition. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
