About the Item
A pair of Regency yellow gold and gemset cannetille earrings, the golden topaz earrings set within three colour gold cannetille work in a foliate style, with gold hook fittings, circa 1820, measuring approximately 4.5 x 1.4cm, gross weight 6.5 grams.
This pair of regency earrings is in very good condition for its age. Unmarked, tested as 18ct gold.
These delicate gold and topaz earrings come from the collection of Bentley
Skinner, Jewellers by Royal Appointment to His Majesty King Charles III. This lovely pair of earrings features detailed three colour gold cannetille, a technique that was very popular in the 1820s and 1830s. Cannetille uses fine gold wires to create romantic and naturalistic motifs and was inspired by the embroidery found in traditional peasant garments in the early nineteenth century. This wonderful pair of earrings features cannetille framing golden topaz stones, which have a rich and appealing honey hue to them. Elegant and feminine, these earrings would pair wonderfully with an evening gown.
