About the Item
A pair of antique yellow gold, silver, emerald, ruby, diamond, and pearl earrings, each comprising two cabochon rubies, one cushion shaped emerald, twelve square shaped emeralds, twenty-two rose cut diamonds, and twelve seed pearls, set in 18 karat yellow gold and silver.
These striking earrings are an exquisite example of Victorian Egyptian revival jewellery. The earrings are each formed as a scarab beetle, adorned with gemstones, and accented by a fan of diamonds and pearls. The bodies of the scarabs are each set with square cut emeralds, set in yellow gold creating the wings of the beetle. Ruby cabochons create glowing eyes and rose cut diamonds add to the piece by accenting the head and wings. Gold antennae branch from the head of the scarab and hold a cushion shaped emerald aloft. Bezel set rose cut diamonds fan out from the base of the scarab, each stalk terminating in a shimmering seed pearl. The earrings are backed in yellow gold, and are fitted with a yellow gold post, completed with extra supportive backs to allow for comfortable wear of the earrings. The gold posts have been added to the earrings to replace uncomfortable clip-on backs which were not original to the piece. The earrings are in good condition, with small impressions visible on the back of the earrings where previous fittings have been attached, which cannot be seen when worn. These earrings are very unusual and are rare pieces. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
