About the Item
Wonderfully Unusual Victorian Memorial Earrings from the mid 19th Century.
Finely woven hair of different tones have been used as a "fabric" in the design of miniature flower bouquets under glass (likely rock crystal).
Often hair (both genuine and synthetic) was woven in the Sentimental/Memorial jewelry of the 19th Century into plaits or dense solid patterns, less so into figural designs such as these. These particular blooms may have represented something special to wearer or creator.
There is a tiny surround of flat cut onyx stones and seed pearls around each cabochon oval crystal. A tiny seed pearl drops from below each earring.
The original ear wires appear to have been replaced but function well with these special and rare period earrings. Set in 12-14K gold. 1.25" x .75" without ear wires.
