This magnificent pair of vintage Italian earrings
is crafted in 18K Yellow Gold (stamped 750);
Each set with a cushion-cut Imperial Amethyst of finest quality,
of impressive 1.50ct approx. (8.5mm x 6.5mm),
of distinctive
intense strong Royal Purple colour
(the best colour an amethyst could have)
excellent clarity
The beauty of this gemstone is truly dazzling:
Imperial amethysts are the most prized and
historically significant variety of amethyst,
renowned for their exceptionally rich, saturated purple hues
often infused with flashes of red or raspberry tones.
These gemstones are most famously associated with
Russia’s Ural Mountains,
where they were mined in the 18th–19th centuries and
reserved exclusively for the Russian imperial court,
making fine examples extraordinarily rare today.
Unlike lighter commercial amethysts,
imperial stones display a deep, velvety colour intensity,
high transparency, and remarkable depth, qualities
that set them apart from modern Brazilian or African material.
Their vivid colour ranges from royal purple to reddish-violet
