About the Item
We acquired this ring in a small collection of good jade pieces in early 2025. We're not jade experts, so we made a pilgrimage out to San Gabriel, California to get the assessment of David Ha of Ha Dynasty. Mr. Ha is a recognized jade authority and the go-to guy for vintage jewelry dealers in Southern California who need helping evaluating vintage jade.
Mr. Ha confirmed this is "Type A" (untreated jadeite jade) from Myanmar. He identified the carving as Chinese (specifically Hong Kong), probably sometime between 1950 and 1965. The discs are thin so they show some translucency, but it's not the highest grade of jade by any means, especially since the predominant color is white, which is, along with grey, is the most common (and therefore least valuable) type of jade. However, the splotches of green get high marks for their frosty green color, and he liked the classic carvings.
And what are the carvings? Each earring depicts a peach surrounded by a shrimp! The peach symbolizes marriage, spring, justice and immortality (now there's four concepts that don't necessarily belong on the same shelf, but we're not getting into an argument with a peach). The shrimp denotes playfulness and humor. So you put them together you get a fair but fun April wedding that lasts forever. Or something like that.
The jades are prong-set in 14 karat gold yellow frames with open backs and a subtle raked detail. The posts have hinged omega keepers.*

MARKS: The earrings are stamped "585" but there are no maker's marks.
