This delightful pair of Signed Drayson London Contemporary Art Deco Revival Diamond Drop Earrings are made in England in the 21st century and feature a dazzling array of diamonds with an estimated total weight of 10.80 carats mounted in platinum. The sweet ribbon-like flowing earrings which trumpet Spring and rebirth measure 1.63 inches in length (4.14 cm) and are designed for pierced ears, fitted with posts and French clips. They depict a mirror image pair of sweetly drooping flower blossoms with four cone-shaped blooms set with pave diamonds, weighing approximately 4.50 carats. The blooms are accented with larger round brilliant-cut diamonds and baguette-cut diamond stems, suspending articulated baguette and circular-cut diamond pistils. Thirty baguette diamonds weigh an approximate total of 1.70 carats and 34 round brilliant-cut diamonds weigh an approximate total of 4.60 carats.
Drayson was founded in London in 1936. As the Art Deco influence in their designs began to evolve, Drayson's jewels became increasingly abstract and bold. Their designs often feature sublime jewels arranged in geometric and harmonious configurations. These earrings feature the baguette-cut diamond which was at its height of popularity in the 1920s. In fact, the rectangular shape of this fancy cut stone helped to develop the symmetrical geometric style that is synonymous with the Art Deco movement. The baguette cut is complex and requires a high level of craftsmanship to achieve. When done correctly as in this fine example, the stone has a hall-of-mirrors effect with nested tapered rectangles similar to a step cut or emerald cut.
The use of baguettes in the four curved floral stems form a continual flow of gems that appear to extend much beyond the earlobes and the curving channel settings in which they sit, and as such, and pay beautiful tribute to the shimmering opulence, clean lines, and perfect proportions of the Art Deco period. An equally delightful detail of this pair is that the same baguette is used in a second way--to create movement and dazzling sparkle from the 10 round brilliant-cut diamonds suspended beneath. A true diamond tour de force.
Each earring measures approx. 1.62'' in length. 30 baguette diamonds, weighing approximately 1.70 carats; 34 round brilliant-cut diamonds, weighing approximately 4.60 carats; pave-set diamonds, weighing approximately 4.50 carats.
