About the Item
This pair of Art Deco-inspired geometric emerald and diamond pierced earrings with French clips are made by Spectra Fine Jewelry in the contemporary era, circa 2010s, and feature two emerald-cut green emeralds, weighing approximately 23.44 carats total. The emeralds are accompanied by certificate nos. CS 65273 A
B dated 19 December 2014 from the America Gemological Laboratories (AGL) stating that they are natural beryl type emeralds of Colombian origin with minor to moderate clarity enhancement. The octagonal emeralds are set with 18K white gold double prongs and surrounded with octagonal single halos of square and trapezoidal diamonds, with round diamonds adorning the sides of the mounting, weighing approximately 2.02 carats total.
The octagonal diamond halos highlight the geometry and hard sleek lines of the overall styling. As is typical of the Art Deco style, thanks to advancements in cutting techniques, within the halos the diamonds have been custom cut in various geometric specialty shapes to fit very closely together. The gemstones are tightly set against one another without the use of prongs to create a more industrial feel. The jewelry from this period between the First and Second World Wars often focused on repeating and symmetrical geometric designs with contrasting colors, like these inspired earrings.
Emeralds were used extensively in Art Deco jewelry, inspired by Egyptian motifs which became a huge inspiration to designers in 1922 when the great Tutankhamun’s tomb was unearthed. True emeralds were mined in ancient Egypt. To the ancient Egyptians, green was a sacred color associated with the fertility of the land. The pair of fine gemstones used in these earrings are from Colombia, which today is the top provider of the world's finest quality emeralds. Prized for their warmer tone, more intense pure green color, and beautiful depth of color, Colombian emeralds can sometimes appear to glow. Colombian emeralds are also known for their exceptional clarity which makes any emerald more valuable and rarer. Each earring measures 0.7 x 0.9 inch (2 x 2.3 cm), 18k white gold 22.32 gr.
