Victorian 7.50ct Old Mine and Old Euro Cut Diamond Silver and 18 Karat Yellow Gold Star Earrings c.1850
As fascination with astronomy grew throughout the Victorian era, the image of a star became one of the most popular motifs in fashion. Brooches, pendants, and rings all began to take the form of heavenly bodies. These stunning earrings from the mid-19th century see 7.5 carats of old mine cut and European cut diamonds fashioned into the dazzling flares and coronal loops of a pair of stars. Sterling silver grips the diamonds in place (as it was the strongest metal capable of being molded to hold diamonds until the early 20th century) and add to the their celestial shimmer. These gorgeous hang glittering with stellar opulence above the landscape of the shoulders for a look as breathtaking as a clear night sky.
